Randy Cable

Randy Cable was a musician from Fredericton, New Brunswick, who was diagnosed with colon cancer in March 2004 at the age of 29. After numerous attempts at different treatments, he eventually ended up being hospitalized indefinitely (according to his doctors). They gave him only months, weeks or days to live. It was after the fifth time they told him he wouldn’t live that he came up with the idea to set up a recording studio in his hospital room to record his solo CD. His idea was to donate all of the proceeds to cancer research and patient services. It seemed that the more the cancer grew, so did Randy’s determination. And thus, Southwest Studios was born, named after the ward in which he spent most of his hospital stay. Unfortunately, Randy did not get the chance to finish the CD. He passed away September 11, 2005 at the age of 31, but he left a legacy of songs, stories and life lessons behind. With the help of family, friends and members of the community, the CD project has gone on to completion and The Randy Cable Fund has been set up in his honour to help cancer patients and their families through treatments.
